Railay Beach, Krabi Thailand

Railay Beach in Krabi is located just behind the big limestone moutains in Ao Nang and can only be reached by boat. Longtailboats travel between Ao Nang and Railay Beach from morning till evening, every few minutes or when ever there are at least 3 or4 people who want to go there. The price for the boat trip is 100 Baht per person, one way.

Between Ao Nang and Railay Beach are two other beaches: Pai Plong and Tonsai Beach. Pai Plong Beach is covered by one single 5 star hotel and can also be reached by a short walk over a small hill at the end of Ao Nang Beach.

Tonsai Beach has still some accomodation available for backpackers but also here the quality of the accomodation is increasing and so are the prices. The boats from Ao Nang to Railay may sometimes stop at Tonsai Beach to drop a couple of passengers there.

Other options to get to Railay Beach by boat, is from Krabi Town or from Ao Nam Mao Bay, just around the corner from Railay East. The latter is mostly used by locals and the staff of the hotels.

Railay Beach, Krabi

By boat is the only way to get to Railay Beach, there is no road or even a walkway going there.

Railay Beach is a very nice beach and very scenic, too. It's actually a peninsular and you can walk from one side to the other, from Railay West to Railay East and from there also to famous Phranang Beach, once known as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.

Railay Beach was once a destination for backpackers and young people and known for it's cheap accomodation. But most of the cheap resorts have upgraded to luxurious resorts know, mostly with swimming pool and posh restaurants so that the once lazy athmosphere has gone and the richer package tour tourists have replaced the backpackers.
